Amateur to pro. However I have two reason for thinking this: 1 First and foremost the captures of 4K material is very "soft" compared to other cards.
At first I thought this was just me but now I'm more sure. The Avermedia GC captures a much sharper 4K signal with seeming higher res. However eyes can be deceiving Its specs in OBS studio report 4K but the default res seems to be p and this seems to be the "information" that the card is able to capture. That also could contribute to perceived visual softness in Elgato captures. So beware of that. I am not sure Elgato is straight shooting with this product?
So I game in p with a hz monitor. The issue I was having with the HD60pro was that when duplicating the monitor output to send to the capture card, it defaults to p at 60hz. By default it matches the resolution of the lowest input device. This device solves that issue. With the 4k60pro mk2, I can stream to to the capture device at p and a high refresh rate.
This gives me a clean stream output for my twitch broadcasts. If you game at a high refresh rate and stream, this is the only way to go. I bought this device because I wanted to display my Nintendo Switch on my iMac I haven't used it to stream per se, but I have connected it to my Nintendo dock so that the iMac screen acts as the display.
Set up is totally easy. Yes, it's expensive to get just for streaming to your iMac but it beats buying another monitor even if the monitor costs less than this device as it keeps the clutter down.
I'm happy with the video quality on the iMac's And if I want to stream at some point in the future I can use this device to do it. It's important to use a certified high-speed USB 3. I connected the pass-through output to a SmallHD Focus 7 monitor and everything worked like a charm. No drivers, no software, just plug and play. Just mind that USB 3. I had initially bought the regular HD60 Pro capture card and prepared for war. Setting it up to work with console streaming seemed to entail hours of complicated setup.
As I waited for it to ship I came across an article about capture cards where it marked the 4k60 Pro as a seamless experience when connecting to consoles like PS4 and Switch. I tried to find some guide on how the 4k is setup but couldn't find much which seemed strange. I decided to wing it and canceled my HD60 Pro and opted for the 4k capture card.
Installing it into the PC was very easy. Once I had everything plugged in and the software downloaded. I powered on my connected Nintendo Switch and bam. It worked flawlessly and instantly. Beautiful perfect streaming, no audio issues, no connecting issues. It just worked instantly. I immediately started up OBS Studio to sync my capture card and wow. Again it was picked up immediately and worked with a click of a button.
I had my brother and friend jump into my Twitch stream and they immediately commented on how good the quality was. I was very impressed by how seamless the setup was. I have yet to try it on PS4 and don't have plans for any 4k streaming for sometime but I can confirm the Nintendo Switch at p was working as good as it gets.

The media could not be loaded. I would not recommend this item until Elgato brings out a revised unit. It gets to a point where the button on the front flashes red slowly but touching it does nothing. I tried using the 4k capture software connecting to the PC with the USB-C cable this time, but it couldn't find the device.
It then went into a loop of booting up with the blue light and crashing, repeating this sequence over and over. Tried a different SD card, different cables, a different video source but no recordings and still couldn't be found by the PC.
I never saw any output from the passthrough either. The most it did was create the elgato folder and settings. Update: I got the Cloner Alliance Pro instead.
Not only did it work perfectly, it was significantly cheaper and came with a remote control which makes it much more usable than the elgato, especially for changing settings. Having been a loyal Hauppauge customer for years, my PVR2 capture card was finally failing and I decided to take the plunge and go with Elgato after hearing so many amazing things about them. Absolutely nothing worked.
I feared it may be a communication issue with my PS5 of some sort, so I tried hooking up the Elgato to the PS4 - Exactly the same problem. No Passthrough signal. As a last ditch attempt, I even tried a different brand of TV - no change. So much for my dive into the world of Elgato. After 24 hours of pulling my hair out trying to get it to work, I've now sent it back for a refund and will be buying another Hauppauge capture card instead. Better the devil you know!
I ended up trying 2 of these and neither worked at all. The first one had no power going to the unit so replaced it for another. The second card had power but its signal was 2 weak to bit it up. I thought maybe it was an issue somewhere else in my set up so I tried it on 3 different screens, my Series X and S, tried 4 different combinations of power leads and plugs and 4 different high-quality HDMI cables.
Nothing made a difference. I was always staring at a black screen. I also, tried connecting it directly to my PC, instead of using it in standalone mode, and the PC detected it was there but couldn't find a picture either. Save your money.
